America’s Got TalentΒ judge SofΓa Vergara came under fire after she pressed her Golden Buzzer for an act that has been described as awful and mediocre. The current lineup ofΒ America’s Got TalentΒ judgesΒ has been in place for the past five seasons. The talent competition series has seen numerous changes at the judges’ table over the years, with some of the more brash judges, like Piers Morgan, appearing early on in the show’s run. However,Β in recent years, the judges have become more positive and advance silly acts a lot more than they used to.
America’s Got TalentΒ ‘s SofΓa Vergara was criticized on social media for making a huge mistake with her most recent Golden Buzzer decision.
TheΒ America’s Got TalentΒ season 19 auditions are almost over, but in the penultimate audition episode,Β SofΓa used one of her two Golden Buzzers on an act called Schumacher, a comedy duo from Japan who put on horse, unicorn and giraffe costumes and made humorous poses. For some reason, SofΓa thought this act was worthy of going all the way to the live shows, but the comments section of a recentΒ America’s Got TalentΒ post on Instagram proved her decision was a huge mistake.
America’s Got TalentΒ fans didn’t hold back in their criticism of the actress and judge, withΒ @Telliott14Β calling Schumacher the “most undeserving” Golden Buzzer of the entire season.Β @__ashizzle__Β called the act simply “awful.” While a lot of fans said the act was funny, basically no one thought it was worthy of a Golden Buzzer.Β @ChuckzarΒ claimed the judges have too much power, sinceΒ America’s Got TalentΒ season 19 allows two buzzers per judge instead of one in previous seasons. “This is what happens when you give the judges multiple Golden Buzzers,” they explained. “It’s not even a winning act.”
There have been some really talented contestants that the judges have advanced via the Golden Buzzer this year, including Reid Wilson, a young singer whoΒ blew Howie Mandel awayΒ with his rendition of Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me.” Reid is one of the best singers of the entire season, and his Golden Buzzer was very much deserved. OtherΒ AGTΒ season 19 Golden Buzzer acts this year include dance groups, a comedian, singers and a drone group. All the judges have used up their buzzers, while host Terry Crews still has one more spot left.
Out of all the Golden Buzzer acts so far inΒ AGTΒ season 19, Schumacher is the one act that sticks out like a sore thumb. They clearly don’t match up with the other more talented contestants spotlighted by the judges. A lot of the comments on the Instagram post mentioned that Schumacher was funny, even though they weren’t worthy of a Golden Buzzer. It’s true that the performance was sort of funny, but even putting the Golden Buzzer aside,Β they should have received no votes from the judges and failed to advance.
